Idle Token Quest Receives Major Overhaul
There's a specific kind of project that sits in your catalog for years being quietly fine. Not broken, not abandoned - just fine. Idle Token Quest has been that game for me. People played it, some of you have been playing it for a long time, but it never got the attention of something like a My Colony. It shipped with an interesting wood-grain theme and used default system modal dialogs, and it stayed there.
v3.0.0 is me finally going back for it. Not a patch and not a reskin - a rebuild. It's live now on Android, Windows, iOS, and the Web as a free update.

All 22 worlds, repainted
Every zone in Idle Token Quest was defined by exactly three colors: a sky color, a ground color, and a road color. That's it. Forest of Despair was #6C5368 sky, #D57B00 ground, #A09857 road, and the renderer just filled three rectangles. Which is genuinely a great system - it's why the game can afford 22 distinct areas across 970 levels.
But three rectangles don't feel like travel. Nothing moved except the enemies walking toward you, which meant a Forest of Despair you were supposedly charging through sat perfectly still.
So I kept the three colors as the source of truth and derived everything else from them. Each zone now builds its own loopable parallax layers procedurally from its own palette — distant treelines, mid-ground rocks and deadwood, pebbles scrolling under your feet, and a blurred foreground layer that sweeps past the camera to make it feel like someone's following you with a lens.

Every zone is seeded, so Forest of Despair always looks exactly like Forest of Despair. And the layer set changes shape per area: the Epic Tree is a hollow interior with light leaking through knot-holes, the Caves of Doom are raw cavern with glowing cracks, the Shores of the Underworld get rising embers, Winter Wonderland gets active snowfall, and the oil-painting zone (Painted Pastures, obviously) is built out of literal brushstroke dabs.
The detail that took the longest to get right: the world stops when you stop. When you're walking, everything scrolls. When you plant your feet to fight, the scroll freezes dead and incoming enemies slide in toward you. World moves when you move. It's a small thing and it changes everything about how the game reads.
36 achievements, a bestiary, and real stats
Achievement hunters will appreciate that the game now contains 36 new achievements to unlock, with support for Google Play Games and Apple Game Center as well.
I've also added the bestiary in this release. Every enemy you've met, with their stats and how many of each you've put down.

The game now also has some real stats that you can track. Character DPS tracking, total team DPS and kills, and sorting on the hero select screen so you can find your actual best Token instead of scrolling.
There are other QoL improvements as well, including improved gamepad support (you can play the whole game with a controller), and much needed fixes to Android back-gesture handling.
And it has music now
The game has been silent for its entire life. It isn't anymore, and I made an intentionally strange choice.
The battle theme is a gothic pipe-organ-and-chiptune anthem - Castlevania meets a 90s JRPG, all galloping bass and cathedral choir. It is wildly more epic than a game about a token avatar figure bonking a forest mushroom with a sword deserves. That contrast is the joke, and I'm keeping it.

The hero select screen, meanwhile, plays deliberately boring elevator jazz. Soft electric piano, brushed drums, upright bass. Designed to lull you into a false sense of coziness - so when you select a Token and the battle theme drop-kicks you, you feel it!
Your Tokens still fight for you
The best thing about this game was always that you can build your own heroes. Make a Token in the free My Tokens app, link it to your Ape Apps account, and it walks into Idle Token Quest and starts earning for you - the more you make, the more money you make, and they keep adventuring while you're away.
None of that changed. It's just in a nicer suit now.

Go play it!
Idle Token Quest 3.0 is a free update on Android, Windows, iOS, and the Web (it is of course also available on the Ape Apps Launcher. If you played it years ago and bounced off how it looked, this is a genuinely different experience - same goofy soul, new everything else.
