A couple of months ago I showcased some initial work on casting floor and ceiling textures in the Death 3d engine. It was pretty slow rendering, and things didn't quite line up right.
I have now improved it to the point where it can run at a reasonable resolution, the textures line up better, and there is now support for Sky textures as well! See the demo below.
There is still a performance and resolution hit when using floor and ceiling textures, so I will be adding an engine option to turn them on or off. Still though, they have the potential to make a map look a whole lot more interesting. You might notice there are still graphical glitches around doors and inset walls, so work yet remains to be done. I will also be going back through all of the bundled multiplayer maps and single player campaign levels and adding appropriate textures throughout.
The next steps are to get gamepad controls completely locked down so I can release the game on Android and Amazon Fire TV. It probably will not be coming to the Xbox One though, since they do not allow indie devs to publish multiplayer games (which is why My Colony had to be taken off of Xbox) 😢
Yes. I was going to put this version on Apple, but I did not think it was ready yet.
Also, I think I have to remove a lot of the blood before Apple will approve it :-/
