In real life radiation is a big problem for astronauts, but in MC 1 it seems nonexistant. My idea is to introduce radiation to the game as an extra challenge for the player to overcome. Here is how i would expect radiation to work in game.

How will radiation work: Each colonist has a cancer chance meter, which measures how likely they are to die of cancer. Their likelihood of dying will increase (the rate of increase will depend on the radiation level of their surroundings) every in game day until they eventually succumb to the radiation poisoning or get medical treatment.

Radiation levels: This will depend on your planet type, an earth like planet will have low radiation, while a regular moon will have extreme radiation, and all other planets/moons will be somewhere in between.

Solar wind: Just like real solar wind, it will destroy your planets atmosphere ruining all your hard work. During the beginning of your adventure, nothing can be done about this, but later on you will be able to put a stop to the solar wind once and for all.

Radiation shielding: A colonist's spacesuit will shield them from some radiation, but not by much. Also all the buildings you get at the start of the game have virtually no shielding. If nothing is done your colonists won't survive for long, so whats the solution? Radiation shielding of course! Once you unlock radiation tech you will be able to upgrade existing buildingsm surrounding them with lead and other radiation shielding materials to keep your colonists safe.

Lowering planetary radiation: This is done in 2 steps. The first step is to replenish your planets atmosphere so it absorbs the radiation instead of you. The second step is to build lots of satellites with magnets in them and send them into orbit creating a magnetic field around the planet.

I don't think this will be very relevant. I guess it depends on the backstory of the colonisation, but if such a project was decided, it was certainly thought through. Whoever programmed the expedition must have taken into account the space radiations.
