Yeah this decay stuff ... - Page 2

It has been mentioned new storage that doesn't require power will be added, also decay will slow down.

ok that makes me feel better.. Just hurts when things like that happen takes all day to get population back up which stops your production anyways for about 24 hours or more ... much less when you loose all your high end resources. Good to know thanks!

yeah, it was mentioned that decay being so fast was in order to reduce the massive quantities that resulted from trade exploit.
Another change I'd like to see, is if a resource hits cap, the production building producing it should pause, instead of continuing to produce product that instantly decays, and consuming whatever the inputs to the building are. As it is, I keep dumping stuff into trade, just to keep it from decaying.

@kevinrs the production buildings *do* pause when your production hits cap. If you take a look at something like gold, which isn't being constantly used up like food or water are, you can see this much more clearly on your stats page.
@fizzlepopberrytwist a better option than backup power-less storage is backup power building fuel. I use alien generators and am sure to have sufficient He3 to power my generators for well over an hour just in case some terrible hickup happened.

If they do pause, then why do I show large amounts of the product going to decay? At the moment, my microchips have hit cap, and I've got 3208 production, 3204 going to decay, and the ancient alien microchip factory is consuming ancient artifacts.
Same issue with charcoal factory, and if I activate it, my food processing sweatshop.

My best guess is that something is using a relatively small number of microchips, causing your alien microchip factory to make a full batch of 1600 while your purposes only require a couple. Then the extras are quickly decayed.
As I mentioned earlier, for gold you can clearly see that production stops when the storage is full, since it isn't eaten up by anything. The screenshot below shows a clearly full and staffed gold synth lab (shown by the progress bar) but zero gold income, only gold decay. This control test clearly demonstrates that production does indeed stop when storage is totally full.
Interestingly, the gold mines do still produce atmosphere. I'm not sure what to make of this, but they aren't consuming ore like they would be if they were properly running - see second screenshot of ore consumption.
