Today the v3.7.0 release of My Colony has gone live and contains many fixes and improvements that players have reported in the Discord so let's take a look at what's new!

Players should see a noticeable performance gain in this update, particularly on larger maps with many units. I found (and fixed) a rather stupid bug in the building construction code whereby every single builder bot in the colony would run path finding to every single construction project every single frame of the game while there was something being built, even if they were so far out of range that they couldn't work on the project anyway. It's a bug so dumb it's embarrassing, but it's fixed now and if you have a large colony you will probably notice the change instantly.

There was another bug where a rounding error in the birth calculations would basically reduce the birth rates of most colonies down to pretty much zero. This has been fixed, so if you have been suffering from super low birth rates in your colony, check them after this patch.

There was also an issue where inactive chunks would stop contributing their utility production to the colony in specific circumstances, which could cause a significantly degraded level of power or bandwidth production in a colony for no reason. It should now be fixed as well.

Moving on, I had forgot to enable the natural disasters code in the new engine, which effectively made the Lava World useless. They are now ported over to the new engine again, so if you are on a Lava World, look out for volcanic eruptions!

There have been a handful of minor bug fixes related to worker chunk allocations, particularly as it relates to workers crossing over chunk lines either by neighboring chunks or by transit.

I have also corrected an issue where spreading terrains (like crystalline, trees, etc) could ultimately end up generating more and more chunks for your world, blowing your game size out of proportion and hogging up memory and processing cycles.

The M keyboard shortcut can now once again move buildings as well as units.

On the construction sidebar, the build categories now contain every single legacy build category that used to be in My Colony, as well as the new automated ones.

There are other little fixes and UI changes you will find here and there that don't warrant a writeup, but I will let you discover them on your own!

Looking ahead, my goal for the next updates is a UI refresh of the Command Center window. I kind of slapped it together as I was doing the engine rewrite and I kept adding more and more sections to it and I feel it's now kind of a mess, so I am going up update it with a cleaner and easier to use UI.

Beyond that my goal for My Colony is to just have it running fast and stable. For new features and content, I will be focusing on My Colony 2 which, by the way, will be hitting Steam on January 15. I will be posting more information on that in the coming days, once the Store page is approved by Valve 😊

Until then though, thank you all for playing My Colony! Keep reporting issues you find in the Discord or via the in-game "Send Feedback" dialog and I will keep hammering them out until I get it right!
