Search - Conversation

Patchdaddy is saying the "Leave Conversation" button makes you literally exit the conversation, so you can't view it anymore. If you want to go somewhere else and come back to the conversation later, you just have to click the Forum link at the top of the page. The conversation's still gonna be there when you hit the Conversations button again.

I have been making some changes to the forum over the last couple of days and I wanted to discuss some of the new and upcoming changes.

First of all, you can now finally leave a Conversation. The 'Leave Conversation' button is now functional. You might have to hard-reload to refresh the appropriate scripts, but it works now.

There is also a new nightly task that runs on the server every night that automatically does several database operations, but also will automatically delete any conversation over a month old that has 0 messages or replies. So if you have a bunch of those 'Let's Talk' conversations with nothing in them, they will automatically be purged after one month.

Next up is forum notifications/alerts, which are currently (as of yesterday) being populated in an internal database, and will soon be going live. Notification events include when you are mentioned in a post, or quoted, or when somebody posts on your wall or comments on one of your pictures. I will also be adding the ability to subscribe to topics and be notified that way. The notification area will be at the top of the forum next to your username. Once I have enough notifications in the database, I will start implementing the UI for it, so if you want to speed it along, just quote some of my posts or give me some @ mentions, lol.

Also, I am adding the ability to create a 'Podcast' section of the forum, which is a new page type. I will be using this feature to migrate the old My Colony Podcast over to this site, that way I can stop paying for the separate Podcast server without actually having to delete the My Colony Podcast. Who knows, having it on here might inspire me to actually make a new episode.

Finally this week, I will be adding two new global sections, Timeline and Subscriptions. Timeline will show the latest threads across the forum, and subscriptions should be obvious, which is based on the upcoming thread subscription feature.

Anyway, that is all for this week. Let me know what issues/comments you have. Enjoy!

I started a conversation with someone. after I deleted the "let's talk" post, I can't see the conversation anymore

Well, I'd hope that rather than just deleting a conversation for a beta game folks are spending time playing and providing feedback on a mod would comment on it, even if it were a snarky comment. I wasn't filing an official bug report, I was trying to generate some conversation over whether others are seeing something I'm seeing so I COULD gather information for a bug report. If that kind of thing isn't the spirit of these forums, I'll probably just drop playing. Other things to do with my time. I rather hope it was a system problem, though, since I like playing!! :-)

Thanks for the reply!

@warnseries invited me to a conversation. When I clicked on the link sent me to me, if told me I did not have permission to view the content...

I think I know why (as I was invited to that same conversation). He typed your name in using all lowercase and you have two capitol letters, so it thinks you are a different username. I will try to fix it. BTW you aren't missing anything, it was just a bug report.

The Ape Chat server has just been updated with some new content which you can now take advantage if you are using the Ape Chat web app (https://chat.ape-apps.com/) or the client that is built into the Ape Apps Launcher. Here is an overview of the new features.

Firstly, on the left chat sidebar that has the channel listing, you will now see two new sections for your Private Channels and your Private Conversations.

This helps you keep things grouped together nicely. And speaking of Private Conversations, there are private conversations now! Previously, you could send somebody a direct message using the @username switch, but the message would only be delivered if the user was currently in chat. Now, private conversations are persisted on the server as a personal one-on-one chat room. Private conversation chats can only be accessed by the two users involved, and are also voice-enabled channels for one on one voice chat.

In addition, if you right-click on a username from your private conversations list, you will see a new Private Window option. Clicking on it will open a new mini-chat window for your one-on-one conversation, so you can have multiple one-on-ones going separate from the main chat.

Eventually, if you install Ape Chat as a PWA on your system (which, by the way, you can now do in Chrome and new MS Edge), you will also receive desktop or mobile notifications when you get a new private chat message, even if you don't have Ape Chat open. This will also work by having the Ape Apps Launcher installed.

I have expanded Ape Apps Account friends list capabilities. If you open your Friends List from either the Ape Apps Launcher or clicking on the new 'Friends' icon at the top of the base Ape Web Apps website (https://www.apewebapps.com/), you will get the updated Friends List popup window, which will allow you to accept or reject friend requests, see who is online, view friends' profile, or open the private one-on-one chat window right from the friends list:

I plan on expanding Friend List management further, and also making the friends window accessible from the individual apps and games, but for now the best way to access it is by going to https://www.apewebapps.com/ and clicking on the Friends List icon.

So that's it for this Ape Chat update. I still need to push the changes out to the Ape Chat Android application, but I plan to keep improving the Ape Chat service as time goes on, integrating it further into the Friends service and into the individual apps and games!

ok guys....let’s all calm down and not make any rash decisions, things happen, it’s a public chat, you wanna see a bad chat place go look at pubg mobile. My Colony isn’t anything like that, it is a free place that needs to stay safe, things happen and we can’t do anything about that, but that’s ok, it’s just how we respond to them when they do happen. I’m not gonna say who’s wrong and who’s right, i’m just going to kindly ask you to drop this conversation. Yes, there are bugs in the game, just like any other game. Yes they may have been talking politics but let’s be honest, no one can say anything politically without someone getting butt hurt over it.
So again, kindly, please drop this conversation.

oh just saw basts post, yea i agree with bast
If you are clicking the "Leave conversation" link then you won't be able to see them any longer.

On another note since you haven't responded to my private messages, please be mindful of where you are posting your threads and comments. Unless you are contributing to a thread, please do not post. A specific example would be the thread with the person requesting help with the white screen issue.

Thank you.
6y ago
Then how are you supposed to have a conversation
6y ago
Don't click the leave conversation link and please, please stop posting multiple posts to finish one thought. If you continue to do this I'll remove you from the forum.
6y ago
For those interested, a "conversation" is essentially a forum thread that is only visible to you and whomever you invite to the view it. If the first post in a thread is deleted, the whole thread is deleted. So... don't delete that first post!
6y ago
I posted this in a conversation, but couldn't figure out how to add a user (like @bastecklein) to the convo.

Anyway, I'm curious about the new forums. They seem to be missing many features one is used to in a forum, most importantly the ability to be notified when topics are updated (without needing a RSS app). I know they're still being written, so I'm curious to hear your thoughts to write your own forums from scratch, instead of using existing forum software. I'm partial to Discourse myself (full disclosure, I was hired by Discourse last month, but I've used Discourse for 2+ years before that) - and I think it would be a great solution. Discourse is free and open source, so please don't interpret this as a "sales pitch".

so it may be the atmo.... but fell free to send me your game file in a conversation, I will have look later the day if you want.

Awesome! i've sent you a invite to a conversation. let's talk there

@Nunez499,

Thanks. No need. Not butthurt. :)

Yes, [insert standard conversation #142 about games in Beta or otherwise not complete]. That's why I played through all three factions to "completion" before posting. Thanks for being active and providing another dimension. I've seen multiple places on the forums where you are really trying to be as helpful as possible.

Thank you guys for your time, I wasn't quite aware of how your forum worked and saw that no-one was online at the time for chat availability. So I just scrolled through recent posts and looked for you guys since you all seemed to be core users/developers. My bad if I caused any wasted time, but yes, it was just a bug report. Thank you for your quick attention, and I look forward to future development and updates.

First off, agreed that this website is eye piercing at night, there really needs to be a darker colour scheme that you can possibly choose in settings.

Sending messages is pretty bad I have to agree. 120 characters is not much and usually ends with splitting up your message into several mails where it could have been said in just the one. However I don't believe the solution is lengthening the character limit. I would like to see a building added to the game where you can open chatrooms with people you know the charter code of, similar to your commonwealth chat option. That would made communicating much easier if you just have a building with a bunch of names of colonies you know the charter code to and when you click it there's your conversation. Extending the character limit to 200 wouldn't hurt either, but could just be used for smaller messages. If the chatroom building isn't added (which I don't think it would be, at least for a while) the character limit does need to be changed and its not terribly difficult to change the value.
Also, while having your mail come directly to your account instead of your colonies could be a good idea if done correctly. For instance the mail would have to say which colony it was meant for or you wouldn't know the context of the mail. But the main problem I see with this is that you only go online when you enter your colony, if you are just on the main screen you aren't really online.
Just FYI premium users have no additional benefits regarding the messages, Vac.

About your trade section, you gain access to larger trading sizes later. The largest comes from the hall of congress which gives you the ability to trade 500 million of anything (but the hall of congress is the most expensive building in the game). Your trading resources directly with other places is already a feature, it is called the Galactic Board of Trade (GBT). However the GBT only trades resources for money, it could be interesting to trade any resource for another amount of resource. But that sounds very hard to actually set up because everything would be in different units. It's just easier to convert everything to the same units, aka money. You can sell something, get the money for it and use that money to buy other resources on the market. Not that hard to do.

With your aid idea, you can already do that. If some base is starving and they tell you about it you can send food to them. It's not going to kill you to help out, although most of the time you only see colonies with problems in your own commonwealth. Sending population would speed up the game, the game is already a good speed if you know what you are doing. I feel like being able to send people would kind of break the game. The first thing I would do is make a new base, send a bunch of resources from my main base and then have another base filled with landing pads so it can effectively send infinite people and your new base would never need to wait for anything. Breaks the pace of the game. The colonists you would send have no reason to leave that colony off the edge of their map, there's nothing but that base on that planet.

What I, personally, would like to see is multiple people inhabiting the same planet, which could be either cooperation in building the same colony or two individual colonies in separate places but can interact. You can open trade routes between you and the other colonies, grow your colony large enough to eventually meet with them. I know bast doesn't want any sort of war, so we will only get peaceful options with our fellow planet colonists. Anyways, just a thought.

What stats are you looking for... I had 580k colonists roughly 150mil main resources.. 5 mil triantanium and other rarer resources.. I noticed the crashes started when I hit about 500,000 colonists and got progressively worse so it makes sense that as I got up to five hundred and eighty thousand colonists to stop completely and yeah I tried to follow in the chat but I logged back in 30 minutes later and it was completely wiped with new conversation... so it sounds like it's probably more of an Android limitation and not something you would be able to fix huh. I've been trying to do some research but I haven't come up on anything do you know of any way to allocate more RAM to a game without rooting
I am in the process of implementing cross platform/cross game friends lists and private messaging using the Ape Apps Account system. This messaging platform will eventually replace the in-game private messages in titles like My Colony, allowing you to compose/respond to private messages from outside of the game.

So I am looking for opinions on how this should tie in with the current "Conversations" function on the forum. Unlike private messaging, Conversations is more like a private forum thread set up with permissions for any number of users to participate in, whereas the private messaging will be more like a basic e-mail type system, with a single message sent to one (or several) users. Private messaging will be cross app/cross platform, where as the forum conversations are just for this website.

Do you think that the forum should support both systems, only the current conversations, or ditch the current conversations and only have the new Private Messaging system? My personal opinion is to lean towards having both, as the website is a good portal to be able to access your messaging across all games, but there might also be occasions where you want to have a conversation with multiple users. But I'm just wondering what everyone else's opinion is on the matter.
5y ago
If it isn't too difficult to implement, it might be more functional and utilitarian to solely use the conversation system.
5y ago
Why not just expand the conversation system to work across a users account where ever they are logged in?

As an aside thought, you could tie it into the launcher system like some others (Steam I think, and another i use do that). At least for PC users, they wouldn't necessarily have to keep a browser window open just to chat.
5y ago
This conversation needs to be revived!
@bastecklein are you still thinking about this?
5y ago
I will be removing the "Conversations" feature from the forum and replacing it with a more traditional type of mail inbox. The benefit of Conversations was that they allowed for multiple users in the same thread, but I looked at the stats and pretty much nobody uses that feature. Switching it to a more traditional system where mail messages are sent off to individual users will make things a bit easier on my part, and also help with integrating the account mail system into the My Colony private messaging system.

I will not be deleting your old Conversation messages though, so do not worry. Once the new mail system is in place, the existing "Conversations" will simply become read-only.

nunez499 said:why do you only think about the premium ppl who use regions

Honestly, the whole point of this conversation was to discuss whether it would be practical to have a way for former non-paying players who have already become paying players to turn their original single-map colony into a region colony, so this discussion only relates to those who wish to do so. It doesn't relate to those who already have region colonies, but to those who wish to have a region colony built off of the existing single-map colony that they have now.

In truth, I appreciate the non-paying players just as much as I do the premium players, it's just that I like to talk about regions because it's a concept that I had suggested before many times and I want to see it grow as it's developed. I'm not saying that my suggestions were the cause of regions being put in the game, I really don't know what moved bast to develop regions, it's just something that I've wanted to see in the game for a long time. Back when I programmed with java, I would always like to experiment with the inception-style concepts like infinite terrain, maps within regions within planets within systems within galaxies, and other fun stuff.

I just had the save conversation with someone else. I really wonder.
5y ago
@colbya can you send me one of these colony files in a conversation
4y ago
I've sent you a similar message to this in the conversation you made by accident.

Another structure type you could add to the IT industries idea is a new money and research production building.

Humans: R&D facility
This building would have a footprint of 20x20 and requires 25,000 whilst providing 500 entertainment by using the wonders of VR to allow virtual tours of the facility.
The structure would produce money equivalent to 20 investment banks and research equivalent to 10 centre for AI.
However, to combat these massive production rates the building will consume lots of ore, steel, gold, microchips, regolith, Helium 3, robots and software whilst also requiring lots of power and bandwidth.

Insectoids: Hive Mind Investments Centre (This would replace the insectoids investments centre)
This building is similar to the human version but instead of regolith and helium 3 it would require lots of antaura and antpaste.

Alpha Draconians: Insect Autopsy Facility
To continue the Draconians cruel control over the insectoids they decide to investigate the anatomy of there slaves to further inflict pain on them.
The building would use antanium and ether instead of the regolith and helium 3 like the human structure.

The idea for these structures is to have a high demand on the utilities and basic resources which the civilizations can produce lots of in exchange for an improved method of producing money and research.

I'd be happy for the rates and requirements to be changed to allow for a more balanced game

Hey @bastecklein what I meant about the send resources through the global chat is to click on the person instead of the notification as most of the time the notifications don't come up unless I don't have the conversation open. Sorry for the inconvenience

this person is twisting the story. some people were talking about politics and they were offended and jumped into the conversation. idk about yesterday, but they are the one who jumped in today.
3y ago
I’m sorry but if he would like to post the full conversation it would be nice because it would clear everything up
