Firing and fire drill problems

After I let the game on for an hour I came back to find that I had no food and water and that 800 colonists had died (I know why this happened but it's not the important thing here).
Afterwards I saw that almost none of my 18000 colonists that were still alive were working so I performed a fire drill. I have been afk for about 2 hours and in the stats menu it says that most jobs are filled (though I don't think that this is true).
But the thing is that they don't want to work. I tried to fire a colonist from the capital building to stimulate the other to work (it worked in the past) but it instead fired all of the workers in that building (also happened in the past).
So idk what to do right now...

Hey, this bug happens to me as well. A lot. Whenever I idle the game for a while, it ends up breaking the game, making my colonists quit their jobs and occasionally leave their homes if its really bad. The only way that I have found to stop this is to make more housing, evidently this bug never happens when I have an inflow of new colonists.

The second thing I have had problems with in the past as well. I tried looking at the people working at a building to see who was actually working to find that no one was even employed there. My advice for that one... never, EVER click show workers on any building because more often than not the game breaks and instantly fires most of the workers. Normally they are working fine anyways, but as soon as you click show workers that building has no one.

Fire drills can work despite popular belief, you just need a helluva lot of food storage so they don't run out before they find work again. But just to be sure always back up the save files before performing one.

Hope that helps a bit :)

But the thing is that nobody wants to work so I can't make food and this makes people unhappy to the point of protesting and this makes people not want to work etc...
Basicaly colony colapse disorder.

I know, that has happened to me on several bases over 200k population. It hurts man xD. if they don't already have a lot of money, do a stimulus package of about $250, that should raise the approval enough for people to start working again. Its not going to be instant though, its going to take a while. Turn off all your working buildings apart from your food and water production to make sure they fill first.

I kind of solved the food problem by placing a ton of potato patches (ALL HAIL THE POTATO) because they don't require workers.
But now the problem is health ,because that requires workers with every building, soooo..... I'm kind of scrwed if the strategy that you told me about doesn't work with healing buildings.

I don't know why you didn't put in hospitals already. Whenever you make housing, the general rule to keep them happy is to make their work 20 spaces or less away, have hospitals and entertainment around the housing. If you do this you shouldn't have too many problems.

I had lots of hospitals and it was going well for a while but then everybody started protesting again and everything went down from there.
