People complain about lack of funds, because they have set high payrolls for their workers and sub colonies. Its like when you become rich and you get used to this life of luxury and suddenly you're income drops. It takes time to adjust your lifestyle to it. Some can and will, others can't and won't. There's nothing in the game that makes it impossible to play now. It's just more challenging now and not everyone seems to like that.
