Game improvements

I just want to say that I am happy that bast has decided to take a break from adding things into the game in order to increase the quality of the game. I too had requested this some time ago and I'm glad to see that bast has chosen to do this. My colony is a really good game and has plenty of potential, and I really hope to see this game make a booming comeback, and I think that taking time to go back and reinforce the original coding of the game would certainly give it a fighting chance. That being said I'm not opposed to more content being added, that's always a welcome change, but I think that quality is more important than quantity in this case and I think it's worth the wait, however long that may be.

I have become addicted to the Region. It solved a lot of issues. However, due to the bugs I have multiple "Dead" regions that are corrupted by one city in the region. If I could DELETE CITY, I may be able to recover the region. Why is there no DELETE CITY function?

Just use the buldozer tool :)

Yes, eventually bast may add features to the region map that randomly determine where oceans and landmasses will be in each map of each region, as if the entire region were a map of the entire planet with all of it's continents. The terrain in each square would match up with the adjacent squares, just like pieces of a puzzle.

Deleting a city/map would likely reset that randomly generated terrain data and turn that 1x1 or 2x2 group of squares blank, leaving a rigid, unnatural square of land that wouldn't match up with the surrounding squares.

Since the buldozer doesn't destroy the different terrain types, using it on the entire map wouldn't change the terrain, but would only wipe out all buildings, vehicles, and colonists. You would then be able to go back in and start over with the exact same terrain features.

Adding new features to the game is essential.. if the game remains the same people will lose interest. Same if only more bugs are added and non are solved. So it has to be both.

But looking at the fff, there hasn't been an increase in people playing because of the bugfixes...

I have noticed a big improvement in how the game runs for me. I agree in the sentiment of Big Daddy Bas going back and fine tuning old features and taking a break from new ones. Indeed, in order for the game to grow new features need to be added, but at the same time old features need to be optimized or fixed if they do not work properly. He's found a good balance for this, and I can only imagine that the game regains its momentum and pushes forward again.

Also, has anyone else noticed a stupidly awesome increase to research production for human worlds? I have 12 research labs and I have access to Nuclear power before I am even at 300 population. (And no, I have not been letting the game idle to gather resources)

I haven't Heard anyone saying the production output from the small lab has been increased.

I think what he means is that the small research labs produce more research than the basic research labs of any other race, which is definately true. Zolarg research is painfully slow at first, I haven't played reptilians that much though. He must've played zolarg or reptilians for his first runthrough.

I'm all for balance between more content and bug fixing. Just look at how many ideas I've posted, I really want more content, but I think taking time to get things right will make it easier to retain more people in the future when more content is added.

I just don't think that bast had payed nearly enough attention to the robust-ness of the code up until now. Not that I blame him, my colony had grown very quickly in popularity and in content and it's hard to keep up with that kind of growth. Just look at what happened before, many people joined the game because of the new content, but almost just as many left the game because of the bugs. Right now I'd say that yes, bast isn't balanced yet, he's mainly working on bugs, but he has a lot of catching up to do. Once he is finished improving quality, he'll regain his balance and start churning out new content.
