Adverse events

Hello guys.

The concept is simple, the nature won't allow everything to develop so smoothly, there will be adverse climates or even disasters.
These adverse events might bring some challenges into the game.

Here are a few examples.

  • Sandstorm
Sandstorms occurs on Red Planets and Dry Planets.
Sandstorms will greatly reduce visibility and pose safety risk to people exposed to it (without a strong protective suit). All outdoor tasks will be halted.
  • Electromagnetic Storm
Not sure where it will take place, I suppose it is an astronomical event.
Colonies in an electromagnetic storm will have communications disrupted and rover services half functional.
  • Great Freeze
    Occurs on cold planets.
It means an extreme winter, during a great freeze, food production is halted as the temperature is too cold. In addition, colonists are more likely to get sick, especially with outdoor tasks.
  • Firestorm
Occurs on planets with hot climate, rarely.
Firestorm is something worse than sandstorms in the way they also halts Rover services, damage buildings, and destroy part of terraforming efforts.

What do you think about this suggestion?

Weather would indeed be a good addition.

Bast emitted a positive opinion about this already (here) but the thread wasn't as detailed as this one.

I have nothing more to say about these 4 natural disasters they are good and planet-specific. I would add the cyclone on planets with high atmosphere. The electromagnetic storm should happen on planets with weak magnetic field. Maybe asteroid-like "planets".

I think the different biomes and planet types need to be figured out first, before making further plans on weather.
