My Colony v0.59.0 Released

Today is a small quick update to My Colony, v0.59.0. There is no new content here. I am going to be busy for the next week here, so I did not have time for a content update, but there were a handful of bug fixes I wanted to get out while I had the chance.

This update includes several fixes, and also changes some of the default performance profile options for specific platforms.

More content to come in v0.60.0. Enjoy!

Do you know if there is a fix to the fire drill coming any time in the future? I've used it twice and both times it has taken several real-life days for everyone to fill up jobs and homes again.

Is there any way you can optimize the game, even on a PC that chews through Doom in 4k@60 like it's nothing, this game has become a laggy mess. Plus, it's chewed through a trillion CPU cycles with just a 2 minutes of being open, which is not normal even Chrome doesn't chew through that much that quickly. I also have every setting set for performance but nothing helps.

Oh. My. God. I. Am. Speechless. This. Game. Is. So. Much. Better. Than. It. Was. At. Version. 0.48. I remember all those bugs at v0.48 and it was so crazy. You fixed so many of them! The game's interface is much more clean. THIS IS AWESOME THIS IS AWESOME HOW DARE YOU BASTECKLEIN EVEN CARE ABOUT YOUR OTHER GAMES I MEAN NO ONE EVEN PLAYS THEM JUST JUST FOCUS ON MY COLONY IT IS SO AWESOME I didn't mean to spam.

I am sorry to the people still having issues with the game. Crashes have been higher over the last 10 releases, particularly on Android, as the size of the game is now starting to outpace Android memory allocations on many devices. I have been doing work over the last few releases to try to trim memory consumption and speed things up. Here you can see the crash rate on Android over the last few versions:


Yes it is still too high, but it is getting better and I will continue working on it with each release.

Javascript performance has also taken a hit with the new mitigation from the Meltdown and Specter bugs, and I am trying to work around those as well. Again, I am sorry for the issues. TBH this is probably one of the bigger Javascript based simulation games out there, but I really am trying to get it resolved. I am not ignoring the issues!

One thing that helps, especially on Mobile, is to not open up the in-app encyclopedia, as this has to queue up all of the graphical assets in the game, and there are now so many buildings in My Colony that loading the graphics will crash most devices, even higher end ones. I need to totally rewrite the encyclopedia, it's just a matter of priorities.
