Texture Modifying Help
I will start this off by stating that I am not computer savvy at all, and my artistic ability is even worse. However, I do want to try my hand at creating a few custom textures. That is about as far as I got because I have absolutely no idea what type of program/software would be the best for this sort of thing. So if you know of any tools I can use to create custom textures, please comment below. It will be much appreciated by myself, as well as any others with zero artistic talent.
I use Inkscape which is free for Linux, Windows, and macOS. Any paint program will do that can save in transparent .png format. If you use Windows, paint dot net is an easy one for getting started. You can export the existing textures and modify them a bit. Make sure the sizes line up.

I do inkscape, I have a question: how do you do the semispheres like on capitol? I have NO IDEA at ALL.

idk, you just draw it lol. There isn't a special tool for it. For the capitol, I took the dome i made for the atmosphere condenser and made it bigger. See if this helps:

I start by drawing a straight line using the "Draw Bezier and straight lines" tool. Then switch to "Edit paths by nodes tool." Move the cursor over the straight line then click the line once. The tool should change from a arrow to an arrow with a hand. You'll be able to stretch the straight line into a curve.
I know, but where do you stretch it?

How do you take stuff without saving it into a new file and importing it?

That's a good question for google, youtube, or inkscape specific forums. https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/
If you want to find inspiration just google what you're looking for and add 'isometric' to the search.
I figured it out.

Hey xification, you might find better success in starting by editing images that are already in the game. For me, its hard to start from scratch, its easier to take someone elses creation and add my own twists. Sometimes it’s just as simple as changing the hue and brightness of the entire image(also known as colorizing), but other times you have to go down to the pixels and make sure each pixle matches up, especially when dealing with complex images like the regolith extractor that i made a red version of(that was the hardest.). Check out my high pressure terraforming thread on the suggestions forum and see if you can tell which images in the game my creations came from.
Also, for drawing i use gimp, which is awesome because of the many ways you can edit an image, not sure if paint.net is similar or not. I copy and paste all my drawings to inkscape, which adds a neat little blur effect to the image, and then i save as svg. Gimp will only save as xcf.
You’ll find all the in game images in the link below, be sure to replace 47 with current version down the road.
