MC2 User Interface

We have discussed a bit about the game mechanics and graphics for MC2, but how about the user interface? Do you prefer a general copy of the current MC1 game layout, sidebar on the right, resources on top, etc, or something totally different (and better)? Something that works well on both the Desktop and on Mobile? I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions on the MC2 interface!

I think mc2 should re-use the old interface for desktop users, while mobile users should get a new one tailored to mobile phones. I would keep the interface about the same for the desktop version. For the mobile version though, you need everything to be more compact to fit the screen, so I would change all bars and pop ups into menus and add buttons on the top left of the screen to access every menu.

The resources tab gets really cluttered by the endgame, since there's so many resources. Some way to clean that up would be nice, since abbreviating the numbers doesn't do enough and setting it to the rolling version makes it hard to check how much of a resource I have.
A 'new' tab on the buildings tab would to have, when you're building a new city and want to know what each type of rover gives you and what you get when you unlock a tech or resource. It improves the sense of progression.
Assuming UI means user interface, selecting all rovers of a type (if you decide to keep that aspect like MC1) should be easier. Currently, you have to get a rover alone somehow and then double click it.

Sorry, I have nothing for mobile, don't really like optimising UI for small devices. I had a hard time doing that for Coloniae.

The top left player icon when clicked lets access player profile and game settings.

Icons over the map are, from left to right:

  • technologies menu
  • heatmaps view toggle (or menu)
  • building menu
  • colonists statistics
  • economy stats (detailed production and consumption)
