Hi all, first post in this forum. I like this game! I used to like playing city building games, and started playing incremental games these days (due to lack of long gaming sessions and mostly play on mobile). I saw My Colony mentioned in an old thread on reddit , and I tried it on Android. It's not really an incremental game by definition, but I like it nonetheless.

One thing I love about incremental game is working out the maths behind all the resource production and find the most efficient way to progress.

So, on my quest to work on the maths in this game, I have several questions:

1. Is it possible to find out the actual tick/second? In the my-colony.com/reference it mentions that the game should be approx 20-25ticks/second, but I found my game (large map, 20k colonists, Pixel2XL) is closer to 13ticks/second. I'm not complaining about the slowness - I just wonder if there is a quick way to find out the tick/second as it heavily affect all the calculations involved.

2. In Statistics, there is a handy summary of the resources generation/consumption. What is the time frame for that? It's definitely longer than a minute. Also, the figures on the overview (i.e. the page with all the resources listed) is different from the detail page of each resources.

3. I see that there is difference between "generate", "fuel" and "smelt". For building that "generate" and "require workers", does the workers increase the generation rate? Or does it differ by buildings? I ask this because I notice some discrepancy in the maths. For medium recycling plant, the aluminum generation speed is definitely increased by the amount of workers (1 al per 50000 ticks / workers). For Regolith Extraction Inc., it seems to be closer to 50 reg per 1500 ticks (i.e. not increased by workers), and similarly for Vertical Warehouse Farm as well.

4. What is the benefit of having multiple workers in a building that doesn't required workers? e.g. ore refinery, tree farm and hydrogen reactor.

5. This is no stats on the colonist generation rate for landing pad and cloning facilities, but I found that in game.js "colGenRate". Is it correct to assume that a colGenRate of 3000 for landing pad means one colonist arrive per 3000 ticks? Also, is generation speed increased by the number of on duty workers, say for cloning facility with colGenRate of 15000 and max 40 on duty workers, the max speed is one colonist per 375 ticks?

6. Should I actually ask here or should I ask in discord? I'd prefer here as the questions seem too length for discord discussion in general.

The most important bit of wisdom in both life and gaming is to always remember to keep your mouth from writing checks that your posterior can't cash and telling the boss that the reason you did was cause you accidentally slipped and broke your word won't make the hammer hurt any less.


When the soldier in front of you is killed pick up his rifle/ammo and then shoot until you either kill the enemy or are killed by the enemy in which case know that the man behind you thank's you for the bullets you saved him from and that the rifle you dropped upon death will be used to kill more after you have fallen.

What is your stance on people making content mods?

I think I may have figured out, or part of how to do it (thanks to Notepad++ and some poking around with it) but I'd like to ask just in case anyways. Unsure if I'll do anything with this info, but someone may. I imagine the stance is "If it works, I'm fine with it" but I'd like to ask anyways

From what I can tell, the game is based on or made using Javascript (in that it uses .js files) and they can specifically be found in AppData\Roaming\Ape Apps Launcher\apps\My Colony\appdata\ .
The files in question, from what I can tell, are only script.js, and game.js.

Some parts seem to be unused if you look at the game while doing some looking at the text of either one.

However, I've got no idea of how one would go about loading content mods outside of just adding those parts to the end of game.js itself, and swapping versions of it. Perhaps one day there may be the ability to add a .js file's contents in the game itself, even allowing Steam Workshop support too.

I see where you are coming from, but not all of us enjoy the grind like some diehard fans do. Capping the gifting system is like putting a limit of people's freedom. They have the freedom to go ahead and give colonies what they want, if they choose so. You plan is more of a hard-line policy than a plan. I suggest this- instead of capping anything, asking for resourses should be off-limits in the global feed. Only ask in your commonwealth, or through direct Personal Messages. And begging and pleading wont get you anywhere either. Tl;dr, Capping buries freedom, but limiting where you can ask is a better option. And maybe this will bring up PM floods? Idk. I'll think of a better solution soon. As always, Catch ya later.

Just a simple idea for the game My Starship.

A reputation overview, as well what reputation affects.

Reputation overview shows your reputation among existing factions.
Example factions:

Major Factions
  • United Earth
  • League of Independent States
  • Zolarg Empire
  • Alpha Draconians
Minor Factions
  • Twilight Syndicate
    The notorious criminal syndicate known for their illegal operations throughout the galaxy, from smuggling to hijacking ships.
  • New Galactic Imperialists
    The secret organisation who are ambitious to restore the ancient Old Galactic Empire. You will never know where these conspiracists are headquartered, but you can recieve their secret quest anywhere by chance.
  • Blue Comet Mercenaries
    One of the major mercenary agency of the galaxy which they are also known as ‘Peacekeeper Merc’.
  • City States of the Outer Rim
    The planets on the Outer Rim are usually forgotten by the rest of the Galaxy. Knowing they cannot just do nothing, these planetary city states formed an alliance to help each other, as well hope they can get noticed by others.

At the beginning of the game, players will start with reputation bonus with their home main faction.
The relations is shown in arbitrary numbers. As always, larger the (positive) value better your relation with that faction. While in negative numbers, it means you have a bad profile.
There's a threshold for a neutral reputation, around the value of -10 to +10. The threshold will keep you from some troubles if your reputation drops.
If your reputation among a faction dropped below -40 you'll be blacklisted from most services provided by that faction. At below -80 you'll be regarded as a criminal or enemy in their territory, which their military vessels will attempt to attack your ship (unless conducting peaceful missions which you'll have a temporary access).
Example:

United Earth +83 (Honoured)
League of Independent States -4 (Neutral)
Zolarg Empire -45 (Blacklisted)
Alpha Draconians -92 (Listed as wanted)

Now let's see how would the reputation affect the gameplay.
In terms of trading, planets a faction you have maintained a good reputation will offer discount to your purchase, and they'll be willing to pay more when you're selling things to them.
Good reputation also results in a few more benefits including more-profitable missions, cheaper repairs and refuel, and unblocking faction unique items.

Here are some factors that will affect reputation among factions.
Quests is still being a main factor - which these missions often involved some galactic affairs, from diplomatic missions to conspiracy of war and revolution. The outcome of the mission will not just impact relations with the involved planetary government, but also the faction. Either positively or negatively.
Failed to complete a quest can also degrade your reputation. So make sure you're able to complete the quest.
A bulk purchase or mass sale will also help developing some reputation, it is a more secured way as there are very few cases you'll make people mad... for instance when you are depleting their critical resources like food, water and uranium.
In case you have earned a notorious reputation among some factions, negotiation is always an option. They may ask you to pay fines, imprisonment, asset confiscation, or just a mission to redeem your crimes. If you're able to fulfill the demands, they'll consider lifting blacklist or death/prosecution warrant.
I'm also introducing a special contract called War Contract. This is signed with a faction, which your client will ask you to fight target faction in a series of high-pay missions. While it can boost your reputation among a faction, it'll also degrade your reputation in another faction. When the war is over you'll be at least blacklisted by the enemy faction. Depending on the reputation before the war and how much damage you have caused, you might even get listed as wanted.

  1. How do you get to become an moderator or an administrator? (I am not demanding to be one)
  2. Why are there less administrative/moderative involvement here than other forums?
  3. Will pinging @bastecklein too much get you in trouble by either him or the administrators?

Bast has said many times before that My Colony is not going to feature natural disasters, PvP, timed events, or anything which forces gameplay in any given direction. I haven't heard him change his mind, yet.

For those "rare" resources, they're rare because they're intended to be endgame resources. Many players dislike going through the game within a day or two and getting "stuck" when the next tier of resources takes a few days to start generating enough to warrant new construction projects, so we see threads like this pop up frequently. The resources are balanced by the GBT, so if something looks extremely expensive, it's because it takes a long time to produce that resource.

The answer lies in resource management. If you use tons of Aluminum and Uranium to feed certain buildings before you have access to dozens of Archaeological Dig Sites, Uranium Enrichment Facilities, and the appropriate quantities of food/water/housing/power/microchips to back up those buildings (which will include a few Alien Microchip Facilities which requires both Aluminum and Uranium), then you'll either need to go to the GBT (which most players at this point in the game can't afford) or start a subcolony (because most players at this point are independent and can't ask their parent colony for help). Simply don't use Al, Ur, or many Microchips during the entire playthrough, and spam tier-1 Microchip buildings (not the Advanced ones!) until you're no longer construction-capped by Microchips.

I didn't ask about the basics of gifting. I regularly gift to those who have embassies in my commonwealth and across my colonies. The question is, why can't I gift crystal yet. Is it because it isn't in the GBT due to volumes, or is there something else that needs to be added that we should anticipate at a later date?

I'm sorta not a good person to ask that, but It depends on your faction.

LIS on the Ice World is the hardest experience you're likely to have in the game so far. Crystalline needs to be processed for power, your only source of it for a LONG time. Crystalline will later run out, when you also need a decent Rum production line to plant more crystalline to keep the lights on.

Zolarg on the Ice World, on the other hand, is a bit tougher, since Crystalline is used to make sugar, which will eventually run out also if you also don't make more rum production to plant more crystalline so you don't starve all your people to death by accident.
Granted, this can easily be circumvented by sending 3 million food via a capitol or consulate equal to level 5.
This can make Zolarg easier than the LIS hands down as at the end of the day, if you do it right, you shouldn't need to import food for a long while, unless you started with anything less than a Small+ or Abundant resource world and wasted time in not rushing the tech tree as quickly as possible.

It DOES however make it very hard to get overzealous with expansion compared to the easier worlds where over-expanding isn't as heavily punished.

In Ice Worlds, if you run out of Crystalline at any point and can't mine anymore, you are completely done for. That planet will never progress further. Ever.

If there was a loss condition, that'd be it for Ice Worlds, since you can't buy Crystalline in any capacity, and I'm actually unsure if you can gift it to others.

In short: No other planet-type even holds a candle to Ice Worlds for difficulty and it's all due to the lack of being able to trade Crystalline.

Charity! You can give it to child-colonies under your charter or other indi colony that already has trading capability. The fastest way is thru trade since the max gifting will definitely take forever to even make a dent with your total amount. Ask them to sell their resources for whatever price you want to dump your money with.

Today I have released the 0.44.0 update to My Colony to all platforms. This update is another mixture of bug fixes and content updates, including the all new concept of waste management. Here are the details, with commentary to follow.

My Colony v0.44.0 Changelog

New Stuff
  • New Resource: Trash
  • New Structures: Microincinerator, Incinerator, Small Trash Pit, Landfill, Small Recycling Center, Medium Recycling Center, Conference Hall, Advanced Medical Research Center, Unholy Brew Pit
  • New Premium Content: Blue Residential Tower
Changes
  • Warehouses (of all sizes) now store Crystalline.
  • Canceling building construction mid-way now returns all resources back to the player.
  • New Galactic Emperor one-time windfall profits tax for online colonies.
Notes
I will discuss some of the additions and changes in a bit, but first I wanted to briefly mention some of the bug fixes that have been introduced. So I think that everybody knows the rover path-finding has been an issue for the last few updates, and it may well still be an issue now, but I think I have finally gotten it reduced to a manageable level. Please still issue bug reports on it though, because this one is a real pain.

I saw in the logs that most of the path finding errors were related to the path finding worker thread running out of memory. Several changes were made to address this. First, the engine's collision map is now only updated when new structures are either added or removed, whereas before it was being updated on a regular interval.

In addition, now when a rover (or colonist) decides to move from tile A to tile B, instead of going through the normal path finding routine, it will first check if both the starting and ending points are currently visible to the player. If the answer is no, then instead of going through full path finding, the game will just quickly check if there are any obstacles blocking the units path. If the path seems clear, the unit will become invisible for a simulated amount of time based on the distance between the two points, and then reappear at the destination. If its not obvious that the path is clear, the regular path finding will be used. Commonly used paths are now also saved and reused by rovers instead of going back to the path finder. For instance, if you are harvesting Clay, the game remembers the path from the clay mine to the warehouse and will keep reusing it until an obstacle appears in the way.

These changes greatly reduce the number of times the engine has to call up the path finder thread, providing both performance improvements and memory usage reductions.

I have also added a cap on how much immigration and colony statistics data that your game file will retain. Before it was unlimited, which could lead to large save files with colonies that have been operating for a long time. This change should reduce file sizes a bit, along with compression and save times.

There were also bug fixes added that related to lottery, taxation, and the amount of money the game assigned to new colonists. A glitch had arisen where there would be colonists walking around with trillions of dollars in their wallets. A change has been made to where this will no longer happen for new colonists, but if you have existing ultra-rich colonists, they will still be ultra rich.

Now on to the addition of Trash. Human residential structures now generate Trash, and it is up to the user to manage it. Right now there are no negative side effects, so colonies have a change to get on top of the situation. This will be changing soon though. Trash buildup will soon impact the health of the colonists, based on a ratio of trash per colonist. The threshold will be fairly low on trash too, although don't ask me what it is yet, as I will figure out the balancing at the time of implementation.

In a similar way, excess atmosphere will start causing colonist health issues. Once atmosphere surpasses the 15 million mark, colonists will begin getting sick. Unlike trash, the effect is much more subtle, so if you are worried about balancing trash vs atmosphere, I would advise that trash is the larger concern by far. Again, the exact numbers are unknown still, but I will figure out the balancing during implementation.

There were other changes and fixes in there which I don't remember off of the top of my head.

Moving on, I want to talk about what is coming next for My Colony. I already mentioned the changes related to Trash and Atmosphere. I planned on adding a lot more Zolarg this time, but I didn't get around to it. Next time I plan to implement most of the suggestions for Zolarg as found in this thread by @IIIStrife: https://www.ape-apps.com/viewpage.php?p=800

Also, for Premium players, I will be adding a new Creative Mode (offline only). It will basically just be a sandbox mode where everything is free and unlocked, and you can just build whatever you want.

I just updated to 0.44.0 and the problem is still happening. After the orange screen with “ape-apps” at the bottom, the screen goes black without displaying the main menu. The attached video shows the game just updated and the problem. I had nothing else opened. Internet connection was good. If I disable Game Center it will ask me to login and then the screen goes black. I can’t reinstall the game because cloud files were not opening back in the game. My main hasn’t been played since Tuesday 19. I need this fixed ASAP please.

I was wondering if it would be possible to change the block under the buildings to match a path, maybe click on it get an option that shows each path and you click to change what the bottom of a building looks like. It's not a major concern I don't lose sleep over it but I think it would be cool and make more sense, I think it's quite a big thing to ask because you'd have to re-skin every building which would be a massive idea. Just tell me yes or no Bast

Harvest aluminium, ask your commonwealth leader or federation if you're in one.
Build a zolarg colony (you have aluminium mines there) and gift it yourself.

Ask to be annexed by an active commonwealth if you find yours to be dead.

Yes, the artificial sweetener factories and robot factories suck up aluminum so if you have them, deactivate them.

problem is that trees can only have them from 1 million atmosphere and the transmition hub unlocks with the electronic chips and the beginning of my colony is a technologically advanced base then to ask for the addition of paper I think you have to make the request on zolarg
