RedGalaxy said:It might be a lot of work, but turning the engine into Java will solve many problems. Android is based on Java, all desktop operating systems will support it if java is installed. Only iOS needs the JVM to be included. To upgrade performance, you can use OpenGL, which can also solve the wrong depth overlapping problem...

I don't know, between not only the My Colony code but all of the supporting scripts associated with it, we would be talking about a complete re-write of the game. We are talking about months of work. Might as well just make it 'My Colony 2' at that point.

As ever e great update, but I have noticed one thing for the last 3 updates now and it is still not fixed: The green bar on the windows version that shows the download status of the update, when its ready and I try to click it, nothing happens. I had to download the last 3 versions of the game from beginning because of this. I wrote about this but I think I was not heard. Anyways, it would be nice of you to fix this please.

That's right, but it might be a big improvement. I'm working as developer and sometimes I run into a problem that can only be solved by rewriting the code, which I just do.

Another option is the communication between JavaScript and Java (I assume you're using JavaScript when using a webview). Instead of using a webview, a Java rendering engine can be written for android (which is optimalized for the game), which communicates with the JavaScript game engine. This might also be a lot of work, but not as much as a complete rewrite. There already exist several interpreters for JavaScript, also one in Java.

A last option is using another built in webview in Android, but I won't recommend that. It will take the game slow and maybe it won't support everything that the google webview supports...

If I could reproduce it I would be working to fix it, no doubt about it. I have not been having any bot issues.

I have a map where the Bots are very very glitchy and it's also the map I'm having problems with saving. I'd be more than happy to send you a copy of it

Oh you can't double quote lol

I am an Android user and I have little to complain about the performance. Although I am a Premium user (and I remember the banner ads causing quite the problem before I bought in).

I usually play with the lowest settings possible (because I did choose the largest map). But I did notice that my device would considerably heat up if increased any of the settings.

My only problem with its functionality right now is that I have colonists assigned to jobs, but none of them are actually going to them. Which is obviously killing my colony and has almost drained all of my funds to keep it alive.

Any help with that issue?

@bastecklein Honestly redoing My Colony as MCII is not a bad idea. It allows you to start fresh and overcome some of the recurring bugs by breaking down the code. Maybe this time you could have people help you make it. Just an idea.

Hey there, I played this game years back and then lost it when I upgraded my phone, but found it again recently and decided to buy the full version.

I love the game. It's simple yet challeging and provides a lot of replay value, so I'm obviously a bit dismayed to hear the news about android. I'd like to make a suggestion, if I may.

Why not scale back the free version? Either by taking things away or limiting map size or making it easier, anything really to keep the crash factors really low.

I say this because I guess that it's the free users that are rating lower, and that the majority of them don't even read these blogs, nor do they understand the complexity of the coding that must be required to make My Colony work; whereas paid members are much more likely to check out the forums and logs, and so will be more sympathetic of the limitations that you might face, both on your side building it, and on our side playing it on android/hardware limited devices.

There's also the problem with the Google Ads that you mentioned with the free users...
You need to get paid to make it worth it at the end of the day, so removing the ads for free users isn't going to solve that.
But if they had a smaller, slower, more simplified version of the game then the ads might work OK without crashing?

I don't know. These are just ignorant suggestions of course, you've likely already thought of them, I just thought I'd try to help. :)

Cheers for a great little game anyway. I don't purchase too many apps, so the fact that I bought this means that I must really like it. I hope to look forward to at least some continued android development, and not too much of a dumbing down in the future.
